How far can positive feedback amplify before the stabilising mechanism has to become stronger?
The question appears in product design, in fraud systems, in communities, in incentives, in business, in ordinary social behaviour. It is the same shape every time: a point at which the behaviour of the system changes character rather than degree.
I do not think there is one general answer. I think there is a general question, and it is worth asking earlier than most systems ask it.
