Where does friction belong?
Restriction is not good or bad. It has a location.

A rule designed to increase fairness can reduce participation. A rule designed to increase participation can increase abuse. Both effects are real, so arguing about whether restriction is good is arguing about the wrong thing.
Current position: put the friction as close as possible to the risky action, and let trust accumulate toward it. I am not sure this generalises past the systems I have tested it in.
