A keypad and a touchscreen reach the same point differently
The object did not change. The relationship available to the observer did.

A directional keypad moves you through predetermined paths: up, across, down, one step at a time, through whatever order the interface decided. A touchscreen lets you go directly to a location on the surface.
The thing being navigated is identical in both cases. What differs is the relationship available between the observer and it — and with it, what counts as near, far, or reachable at all.
This is where the dimensionality question started for me. It came from a remote control, not from a textbook.
