The worst condition can exist. So can the best. Neither is the position from which it is described.

This is not optimism and it is not bracing for disaster. Both extremes can be real. But describing either as best or worst requires a position from which the description is made — and that position is not the condition.
The practical version: do not define yourself entirely through temporary states.
